Iaido
The Art of drawing the Sword

Iaido is an ancient Japanese martial art derived from kenjutsu, that teaches how to draw and cut using the Japanese sword. Emphasis is placed on courtesy, anticipating your opponents’ intentions and quickly and precisely drawing the sword to cut or counterattacking in response to your opponents actions. This martial art provides both physical and mental training and seeks to develop accurate movement while keeping your mind claim and focused. New and intermediate level students train with replica swords while higher-dan holders regularly train with real swords. The International Kendo Federation has adopted 12 standardized kata derived from older traditions called koryu or “old schools”. In addition to Kendo Federation Iaido our group also practices the koryu Musou Jikiden Eishin-ryu.
